Inversions for Back Care & Scoliosis with Jon Musgrave FULL WEEKEND
Inversions for Back Care & Scoliosis with Jon Musgrave (In-Studio & Online)
July 6–7, 2024
Saturday, 2:30–5p
Sunday, 12–2:30p
Inversions are an essential part of the practice of yoga, and help to regulate the body and promote healing and wellbeing throughout the entire self. Physically, going upside down works the muscles and joints in an opposite relationship to gravity, allowing for different patterns to emerge. Inversions help to balance the hormonal system, and going upside down flips our perspective so that we see our practice and relate to our patterns from new angles. However, students with back issues and scoliosis often have fear around inverting, and care must be taken to practice inversions safely and effectively.
On Saturday, Jon will introduce you to ways of working towards Sirsasana (headstand) and related, more stimulating and activating asana (handstand, pincha mayurasana, viparita dandasana). On Sunday, you’ll work towards Sarvangasana (shoulder stand) and related calming and restorative asana (setu bandha, viparita karani, halasana). Fully inverting is not required for you to benefit from these upside-down postures, and Jon will teach setups for all of the asana without fully extending the legs. However, if you have an interest in fully inverting but don’t yet feel comfortable doing so, Jon will introduce ways to begin building the strength and confidence to go all the way!
This workshop is recommended for students who have been attending classes regularly for at least 6 months, and is not appropriate for new beginners. For students attending online via Zoom, it would be helpful (but not required) to have 2 matching folding chairs and 2 sticky mats.
All About the Feet with Karin Stephan FULL WEEKEND
All About the Feet with Karin Stephan
In-Studio Only
June 22-23
Saturday 10am-12pm & 2-5pm
Sunday 10am-12:30pm & 2-4:30pm
In this workshop, Karin will present her work with the feet in relationship to the yoga asanas as taught by B.K.S. Iyengar. Her focus will be on how correct alignment in the feet can enhance precision and alignment in the execution of the poses. She will also demonstrate how misalignments and asymmetries in other areas of the body can have an effect on the feet. Drawing on three major categories of perception [the use of imagery, visual cues, and understanding of the structure of the foot], Karin will show students how to adjust and activate the neuromuscular skeletal aspects of the feet in order to enhance strength, beauty and resilience in the entire body.
6 months minimum practice experience in Back Care / Alignment based and/or Iyengar Yoga
