Osteoporosis is a bone disease that develops when bone mineral density and bone mass decreases. Come learn the actions that bear weight on the bones, mobilize the pelvis and send a fresh supply of blood to the joints.

Saturday, 2 – 4:30pm:

We will focus on standing poses (supported and unsupported) to help build strong bones, and the standing one-legged poses (such as vrksasana – Tree Pose) to help minimize the risk of falls, and therefore fractures.

Sunday 1:30 – 3:30pm:

We will learn how to take extra care of the spine by using props to keep it long in the forward bends, the (upright) extended spinal twists, and the reclining poses. We will also explore the poses that create space between the vertebrae: Adho Mukha Svanasana – Downward Facing Dog Pose, (and for the experienced students), Rope Sirsasana.

The goal of this monthly class is to learn about and connect to the pelvic space. Students will be given time and opportunity to experience, reclaim and embody the pelvic region, the female organs and the rhythms of the female cycle.

Each of the five classes will be a mix of lecture, discussion, asana and movement practice.

The classes will cover:
Exploration of the functional, somatic, and experiential anatomy of the pelvic region.
Exercises for self-discovery, flexibility, strengthening, and coordination of the pelvic region.
Guidelines for practicing yoga asana with pelvic alignment in mind, informing and creating connection with the organic body.

We each hold native, embodied wisdom. This wisdom reveals itself when we allow the natural genius of our bodies to show the way for practice and connection. Experiential Anatomy, Developmental Movement, and Iyengar Yoga can be vehicles to understand, connect to, reclaim and integrate the territory of the pelvis.

No matter what your child’s situation, the Yoga & Scoliosis for Teens and Tweens class will help address your child’s scoliosis, muscular tension, pain patterns as well as the psychological and social pressures that accompany treatment and therapies in adolescence.
This class is appropriate for ages 11-17. All teens welcome are welcome to this class, but as idiopathic scoliosis is commonly diagnosed in adolescence the class will generally focus on scoliosis. This 1-hour class creates an environment that is less intense than the adult classes, allows teens to relate with one another, and is sequenced for a young person’s energy level. Dahlia Galler’s positivity and experience with her own scoliosis will communicate how the love of yoga will lead to a healthier relationship to the body…at a time when this relationship is particularly difficult.
