MERRYL’S MOSAICS & GLASS STUDIO
TERMS OF ENGAGEMENT AND PROCEDURE DOCUMENT FOR NEW CUSTOMERS AND ON-GOING CUSTOMERS
Thank you for attending Merryl’s Mosaics & Glass Studio. We are delighted to be of service to you and trust you will enjoy your experience here.To help keep the studio running smoothly, kindly read and adhere to the following procedures:
1.SIGN IN AND OUT
Sign in to the Sign-In book on arrival, and sign out on completion of every session.
2.WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO BEGIN
For a one-off session, you don’t need to bring anything. If you transition into an on-going regular customer, please label your work at the back with full name, mobile, and date project commenced. Please bring with you the following: large plastic container (approx.. 30 x 30 or more) with your full name printed on, pen/pencil, black texta, silver texta, wet wipes (if you want to use them). Please store these items in your container together with your work-in-progress glass that is being used during your project. You may keep this container at the studio if you choose.
3.USE AND PURCHASE OF TOOLS
If you are an ongoing customer, you will need to purchase your own cutters. You can buy them from us for $35. You are welcome to use the rest of our tools. If you want to take tools home – especially running pliers or scorers, you will have to purchase them.
Please look after the studio tools, and return them to their place in clean condition.
At the end of your session, please clean up your station for the next person, putting your box back where you keep it. If you have used our machinery or our cutting system, please clean the Vaseline off the glass if you have used it, wash the glass and put it away.
If your project is still wet at the end of your session, you may leave it on the table.
5.STORAGE OF WORK
If you are working on a project that is being stored in the studio, it is expected that you will continue working on the project in a timely manner until complete. If you do not return for a period of 3 months, we expect you to pick up your piece and keep it at home, as space in the studio is limited. If you have not picked up your unfinished piece for 6 months or more, we will attempt to contact you but will have no choice otherwise but to dispose of it.
Merryl’s Mosaics offer the convenience of storing your work/your boxes in our studio. Merryl’s Mosaics will take care to protect your work and possessions, but will not be responsible for any damage or theft that occurs, and your work will not be covered by Merryl’s Mosaics insurance. This applies equally if you are showcasing your work in the studio.
6.FOR ONGOING CUSTOMERS USING MOSAIC GLASS IN YOUR PROJECTS
Glass is a very expensive commodity and the Studio is firming up its policies regarding its use:
7.USING FUSABLE GLASS
Fusable glass is very expensive, and due to the fact that large pieces are typically used, it loses its value once it is cut up. When you want to make a fused glass piece, you will be charged for the cost of your glass in your piece plus a wastage fee. So if your design is straight-lined and will not incur a lot of waste, you will be charged less for wastage. If your piece is a circle, or a wavy piece, or requires a lot of machine cutting, or you break a good piece of glass while working, you are leaving us with a lot of waste which is very costly for us. Your end price will be taking this waste into account. If you prefer, you can buy your glass upfront and just pay for the firing and kiln paper fee as opposed to paying for the piece. This way you would keep all your waste. We would prefer this option.
8.USE OF THE KILN
If you are going to be utilising our kilns for your work, please be aware that there is an element of risk when using a kiln, and glass does not always behave as expected. If your piece breaks or comes out differently from expectation, we will try to help you fix your piece or change it into something else. We cannot guarantee that your work will come out as expected, and usage of our kilns is dependent on you accepting this possibility, and paying for your piece regardless.
You will receive a 10, 15 or 20% discount off the prices below, depending on your package:
Mosaics = $22 per hour includes glass (or $55 per 2.5 hour session)
Fusing = $22 per hour (or $55 per 2.5 hour session) + price of glass piece plus kiln use
Additional cost for boards, 3D objects, scaled up print out, use of kiln and specialty glass if required.
Our comprehensive price list is available and on the walls of our studio and you are welcome to request a copy.
10.CANCELLATIONS AND REFUNDS
For our daily sessions we do offer flexibility, however, we plan our staffing according to number of bookings, so we would appreciate at least 12 hours notice if you are not going to attend a session you have booked in for. You can reschedule your booking with no penalty, but if you cancel, a $10 Admin fee will be withheld from your refund. If you miss your session your payment will not be refunded
12.CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
Please be aware that you are entering a glass studio, and although precaution will be taken to keep you safe, glass is a dangerous material and accidents can happen. The condition of entry is that this risk is taken by yourself, and Merryl’s Mosaics will not be held responsible for any accident that occurs on these premises.
