In this workshop, participants will experience the importance of pelvic placement and postural alignment.
Postural alignment is paramount for accessing the pelvic floor muscles. The positioning of the bones enables the muscles to be placed in the most opportune position for muscle contractions and pelvic floor sensitivity to occur.
Through yoga asana practice and other exercises from The Felt Sense Method, longtime Iyengar teacher Jaki Nett, pelvic floor specialist and author of A Crack in the Mask will guide students toward optimal alignment. The practice will address pelvic floor dysfunction, develop core strength and create support for the organs and spine.

Students of any skill level - including beginners - with lower back pain due to lumbar musculature issues, trauma, and vertebra and disk conditions will benefit from this experiential workshop. During our time together you will learn:
-Gentle, safe movements to soothe, balance and strengthen your lumbar spine, while respecting your body’s particular conditions and limitations.
-How to explore the messages that your lumbar presents to you, in order to gain understanding of how to create lower back health.
-Techniques to change your emotional responses to lumbar pain.
Liz Owen learned lower back therapeutics over a 25-year period immersed in Iyengar yoga. During this time, she studied with senior Iyengar teachers in the U.S., and both B.K.S. and Geeta Iyengar. Her expertise of lower back health and yoga philosophy brings both Eastern and Western wisdom to bear on creating a healthy lower back and will bring mindfulness and depth to your journey of maintaining lower back health in daily life.
She is co-author of two books that students will find useful for creating both lower back health and emotional well-being - Yoga for a Healthy Lower Back, Shambhala Publications, and The Yoga Effect: A Proven Program for Depression and Anxiety, DaCapo Lifelong. Both books are available for purchase at Samamkaya.

Most people begin practicing Yoga in search of relief from a nagging pain or back issue. Yoga has wonderful therapeutics to address many aspects of both physical and mental distress. Ayurveda is the sister science to yoga. It is a complementary medical system that supports one's yoga pursuit to help heal, find balance, reconnect with one's nature and to increase one's understanding of oneself. Jeanne-Marie will look at the doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, as well as other fundamental Ayurvedic principles that will help each student with their practice journey.
Jeanne-Marie, CIYT is a Clinical Ayurveda Specialist and Ayurveda Herbalist, certified in Iyengar Yoga and as a Yoga for Scoliosis Trainer through Elise Browning Miller. Her interests in Yoga and Ayurveda stem from a lifetime of promoting a healthy lifestyle (for herself and others). She teaches Yoga and sees Ayurveda clients online, and travels to teach live workshops.
