Riding Academy Terms & Conditions
WELCOME TO KB EQUESTRIAN
We are looking forward to working with you! Please read through the following document to fully understand our academy. We have a unique offering, unlike any other in the area, so it is important to understand our terms, conditions, expectations, and policies.
HOW THE ACADEMY WORKS
We offer memberships to our academy which gives riders access to weekly riding lessons and a weekly horse education class. Depending on the membership you select you may ride anywhere from 1-3 times per week in a semi-private lesson (these lessons consist of 2-4 riders). If you are a beginner rider you will have 1-on-1 attention with one of our instructors until you are capable of riding on your own. Horse educational classes are in a group setting and take place the same time and day each week.
TUITION AND PRICING
Our academy offers open enrollment, which means you can enroll and start at any time! All members sign up for their membership through our website and are automatically charged their tuition every month. Pricing for memberships can be found online at www.kbridingacademy.com or www.kbequestrian.as.me
Alternatively, you can choose to enroll in school year tuition, or full year tuition, which offers a discounted rate for each student.
WHAT TO EXPECT
KB Equestrian will provide the lesson horse, equipment for the horse, instructor, and a safe environment to learn in. All students are responsible for arriving in safe attire (riding boots with a heel), full length non-baggy shirt, riding pants or leggings, and helmet. We do have helmets on hand in case of emergency or to try. SNEAKERS ARE NOT ALLOWED AND ARE A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD! We will also send you a welcome packet that has recommended attire.
When you arrive, if you are able to independently tack your horse, you will check the lesson horse assignment board and begin preparing you and your horse for your lesson. We expect the horse to be well groomed and tack adjusted for proper fit. If you are unable to tack on your own, you and your instructor will prepare your horse for the lesson together during your lesson time. You can find the appropriate tack for your horse on the tack chart in the tack room.
After your lesson you are responsible for putting your horse away properly, grooming, or hosing down your horse when applicable.
OUR CURRICULUM
Our academy has a levels-based curriculum that helps riders measure their success and set new goals along their equestrian journey. Reaching a new level will help unlock new benefits within the academy, such as earning a free hack ride every month. You can find our curriculum outline in the members corner of our website (www.kbridingacademy.com). Please email us for the password.
HORSEMANSHIP CLASS
Horse education (horsemanship) class is held every Saturday at 11:00 am. PLEASE sign up online to notify your attendance to the class. It is completely complimentary to all students, available no extra charge. There may be weeks where class is canceled. Any canceled horsemanship class may not have a makeup date. Some classes are available on zoom (weather sometimes being a factor), which is why it is important to sign up online.
INSTRUCTORS
We cannot guarantee which instructor you will have, although we do strive for consistency. If you have an Elite Equestrian Membership, you will lesson with your requested instructor. All instructors go through intense (above-average) training in order to teach at KB. No matter what instructor, you are in good hands! During the winter months, we cannot guarantee which instructor you will have as Katie travels to Florida to train with her own horse. There are options for video lessons while she is away.
BARN DAYS
Barn Days are available to students who have achieved "Yellow Level" status, per the KB Equestrian Curriculum, or are over the age of 13 . This will allow students to be dropped off at the barn and stay for an extended period of time, with a prior request submitted at least 24 hours in advance. The hours for this are only during normal lesson hours (tuesday-friday 4-7pm, Saturday 9:30am-2pm).
THE SCHEDULE
All members are given a designated time for their riding lesson(s). This time will stay consistent each week until it is mutually changed. Tuition is due every month, whether a rider makes it to their lesson or not. Riders can reschedule up to 2 lessons per billing cycle, if scheduling allows, and given there was 24-hour notice of request to reschedule the lesson. The rescheduled lesson will take place within another semi-private lesson. If the rider is a beginner and still receiving one-on-one attention you may opt to have one of your lessons extended to compensate for a missed ride. All lessons canceled by the stable may be made up by a bonus educational class, available in person or on zoom, or a makeup lesson, at the discretion of the stable.
CANCELATIONS & MAKE-UPS
If you need to cancel a lesson, no sweat! Please provide 24 hour notice which must be sent by email to katie.kbequestrian@gmail.com. Please do not text to cancel your lesson, unless it is a last minute emergency. Lessons canceled within less than 24 hour notice are not eligible for make up lessons. You may have 2 make-up lessons per month. All makeup lessons have a 30 day expiration and they do not roll over into the next billing cycle. We still need to feed, care for, and provide maintenance to our school horses even if you don't come to ride. Your membership fees go towards the maintenance of our horses, which allows us to keep nice horses for you to ride.
SCHEDULED TIME OFF
KB Equestrian operates on an annual 47 week on, 5 week off term. This enables us to give our horses a break, allow for additional training, allow students to compete at horse shows and to run special events. Scheduled time off will be notified at least one month in advance, with as much notice being given as possible. During months when there is scheduled time off tuition is still due in full for all riders. Additional horse educational classes may be available during weeks off, either via zoom or in person.
YEARLY MAINTENANCE
Yearly maintenance fees of $50 apply to all students, boarders, and leasers. These fees help cover tack repairs/replacement, the infinite loss of hoof picks, tack cleaners, towels, equipment repairs and replacements, and more. These fees are due every June 1st.
CANCELING YOUR MEMBERSHIP & REFUNDS
We will be sad to see you go! If you would like to cancel your membership at any time you can do so with 30-day notice. This notice must be sent via email to katie.kbequestrian@gmail.com. We do not provide any refunds for un-used lessons, lessons you were unable to attend, or lessons within your 30 day notice period. However, you may donate these lessons to our scholarship fund, where we offer less-fortunate students lessons through sponsored memberships.
