Please note that each digging adult in your group requires a
reservation. Use the "quantity" field to choose how many reservations
you need. We limit our daily groups to 10 adults to ensure that all our guests receive personal care and attention. We can, however, make arrangements to accommodate larger groups. If we do not have enough reservations available for you group, contact us.
Tour times can be flexible. We try to begin tours at 9:00am to take advantage of the cooler temperatures and lower wind of the morning. If you need to start later or earlier, contact us and we'll let you know what we can arrange. The end time of a tour is also indeterminate - we take into account how many fossils a guest has found, what condition they're in, how quickly we've found them, etc. in determining when the proper time to wrap-up is. Again, if you have a schedule to stick to, let us know, and we will be sure you're satisfied with your experience in the time you have available.
We will supply all the tools you will need, water, first aid, and camping chairs. Anything else you'd like to have with you (snacks/beverages, sun protection, additional tools, etc.) you are welcome to bring.
We offer transportation to and from the quarry. However, you are welcome to use your own vehicle provided it has four-wheel-drive and sufficient clearance to make it up and down the steep dirt-road to the quarry.
Pets are welcome, and supervising them is your responsibility.
Children (15 and under) may assist in digging with paying adults for no charge, or they can dig their own pallet of fossils for an additional adult fee. (A pallet can be shared between multiple children).
Take note that certain months when reservations aren't open (ex. Oct,May),
we still may be able to take you on a tour! This is entirely dependent
on weather. We dig from the time the snow melts to when the snow falls
again. We just don't want anyone to make a reservation and be
disappointed if we're forced to cancel. If you hope to dig
during a time you don't see available on the calendar, get in touch with
us and we'll make it happen if we can. Thanks for understanding!
FAQ: What the heck is a pallet? For many years, Ulrich's has used 2' x 2' planks of wood to collect specimens on while digging. This keeps all your finds together, helps them dry, and makes them easy to load and transport. In the course of your dig, you will fill your pallet reasonably full of fossils, usually on the order of 10-12 complete, high-quality specimens as well as assorted bits and pieces which you may choose to keep or not. The one thing we guarantee is that you will walk away with an assortment of beautiful and unique pieces you'll want to keep for years to come!
