Early settlers in Guilford had to rely on their own skills and those of their neighbors to survive. Bringing only necessities with them as they traveled along the Great Wagon Road, colonists relied heavily on their knowledge and experience building, crafting, and making things they needed. From wagons and wheels, to homes, to apprenticed crafts, settlers used their knowledge to survive the backcountry of North Carolina.
