IN PERSON - Group Tour, for Community Groups & Non-Profits

For groups of up to 35. Groups smaller than 10, please book a tour for individuals and small groups above.

Suitable for non-profits, community organizations, civic leaders or organizations, and everyday New Yorkers with a passion, interest, or curiosity for recycling. Completed safety waivers are required.

VIRTUAL - Group Tour, for Community Groups & Non-profits

1 hour

For non-profit or community groups of ten or more. No limit on the number of maximum attendees.

The virtual tour will feature photos, videos and graphics depicting how recycling works in NYC and beyond, including operations at SMR, the largest facility of its kind in the country. Q and A offered as well!

VIRTUAL - Student Group, all grades

1 hour

Learn all about NYC recycling and waste in an interactive, online presentation featuring photos, videos, and graphics describing how NYC recycles and how our Brooklyn Facility processes 1000 tons of recyclables each day. Tours last 45 minutes to one hour. Let us know if you need a specific start and end time!

IN-PERSON Student Group, Grades 3 - 5

1 hour 30 minutes

Learn all about NYC recycling and waste in our interactive Recycling Education Center. After a brief discussion, students participate in hands on activities focused on the recycling process and then proceed to the observation platform to see hundreds of tons of New York City's recyclables and the vast system that sorts them out. You are welcome to stay an extra 20 minutes to eat a packed lunch on site. We can accommodate 30 students and five chaperones per group. Waivers or DOE insurance letters required.

IN-PERSON - Student Group, Grades 6-8

1 hour 30 minutes

IN-PERSON - High School Group

1 hour 20 minutes

Max 30 students per tour. Waivers or DOE insurance letters required.

Learn about NYC recycling and waste through a short presentation, time in the interactive Recycling Education Center, and a view from the observation deck where they will see hundreds of tons of NYC recyclables and the vast system that sorts them out. We are able to cater to multiple topics and areas of interest related to waste and sustainability.

You are welcome to stay an extra 20 minutes to eat a packed lunch on site.

VIRTUAL - College/Graduate School

1 hour

We tailor tours for a wide range of classes: environmental education, urban planning, architecture, anthropology, economics, product design, engineering, and more. The presentation will include relevant photos and videos depicting the recycling process and will be hosted live by one of our recycling educators. Students are encouraged to ask questions throughout the tour.

IN PERSON - College/Graduate School

1 hour 30 minutes

Max of 35 attendees per tour. Safety waivers required.

We can tailor tours for a wide range of classes: environmental education, urban planning, architecture, anthropology, economics, product design, engineering, and more. After an introductory discussion, attendees will walk through our interactive Recycling Education Center, and then view our tipping floor, where we receive hundreds of tons of recyclables each day, and the massive system that sorts the recyclables.
