This course is an introduction to the legal and policy issues of environmental protection and decision-making, including study of common law approaches to pollution control; and the theories and approach to federal laws governing environmental regulation.

The course surveys the substantive law of crimes, including the general principles and elements of specific offenses and defenses.

It explores the rules of evidence, expert testimony; role of court and juror; direct and cross examination; competency and privileges of witnesses; admission and exclusion of evidence; credibility of evidence; relevancy and circumstantial evidence; hearsay rule; real proof and writings; and constitutional problems of evidence law.

This course will explore the case law which has evolved in connection with the interpretation of several key statutory sections of Title 35 (the 1952 Patent Act), including section 101 (eligible subject matter and utility), section 102 (prior art, novelty, and loss of right), and section 103 (non-obviousness).

This course covers the federal system and the allocation of power between the federal and state governments; allocation of power among branches of the federal government; nature and scope of judicial review, procedural due process, and individual privacy protections against government interference.

This program covers questions related to humanitarian and family-based immigration, such as citizenship, status, deportation, and visas. At this time, PBI is unable to help clients who are looking for information on employment or education-based visas.

Appointments are 30 minutes long and are hosted in-person at UNP Hartland Partnership Center (1578 W 1700 S, Salt Lake City, UT).

This program covers questions related to bankruptcy, collections, and credit issues. Appointments are 30 minutes long and are hosted either online via Zoom or at SJ Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah.

If no appointments are available, we do take clients on a walk-in, first-come, first-served basis. The Debtor's program occurs on the fourth Thursday of every month from 5:30-7:00pm.

This program covers criminal expungements and limited procedural questions regarding outstanding warrants or misdemeanor offenses. Attorneys cannot represent you in court and will not provide criminal defense. Consultations last between 30-60 minutes.

If no appointments are available, we do take walk-in clients on a first-come, first-served basis. The Expungement program occurs on the first Thursday of every month from 5-6:30pm.

This program covers questions related to family law, such as child custody, divorce, and protective orders. Appointments are 30 minutes long and are hosted at SJ Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah.

If no appointments are available, we do take clients on a walk-in, first-come, first-served basis. The in-person Family Law program occurs on the fourth Thursday of every month from 5:30-7:00pm.

This program covers questions related to family law, such as child custody, divorce, and protective orders. Appointments are 30 minutes long and are hosted online via Zoom.

This program covers questions related to LGBT legal issues, including name and gender marker changes, employment, estate planning, and family law. Appointments are 30 minutes long and can be hosted either at the Utah Pride Center or online via Zoom.

If no appointments are available, we do take walk-in clients on a first-come, first-served basis. The Rainbow Law program occurs on the second Wednesday of every month from 6-7:30pm.

This program covers questions related to housing issues (landlord/tenant disputes and eviction), employment (discrimination, termination, and harassment), consumer, and small claims. Appointments are 30 minutes long and are hosted online via Zoom.
