Handling and Husbandry
The Handling and Husbandry class addresses issues common to veterinary care, grooming, and husbandry. Included in this training is an introduction to the muzzle, nail trim preparation and general handing exercises. The hand target allows you to move your puppy from Point A to Point B without force, it acts as an excellent recall cue (come when called), you can transfer the target to “potty bells” to help with house training, prompt your dog onto a vet scale, and more.
The Kitchen Habits class addresses self-control around food through teaching pups to take treats nicely, “Elevator Bowl” and training to prevent “counter-surfing”. This class also introduces Resource Guarding prevention, a critical socialization exercise for all puppies – even those who haven’t shown any guarding tendencies!
Socialization is more than just people and dogs! The Scary Monsters class focuses on walks around your neighbourhood and the scary or exciting things your pup may encounter. Polite leash walking is introduced in this class. The exercise “Look at That” is a critical reactivity-prevention exercise that can be used in situations where your pup is fearful, reactive or simply over-excited. This class also shows you how to properly introduce your pup to "weird" situations and develop their confidenc
The Self-Control class introduces impulse control and dropping toys when asked through playing a structured game of tug. It also demonstrates the foundation of teaching your puppy to keep “four on the floor” when greeting people. Reinforce behaviour you like, and prevent reinforcement of behaviour you don’t like! We’ll also introduce the recall (come when called).
The Quiet Time class focuses on teaching a quiet, stationary behaviour. This class also looks at leash biting and puppy nipping, the reasons behind it, and the best ways to address it.
