Primitive Bow Workshop - Self Bow
Learn to build your own primitive bow. In this class you will learn how to identify and locate good bow staves in our local wilderness and what properties and characteristics to look for. From start to finish you will make your bow. You must bring a hatchet and knife to participate in the build of your bow with the class. Bow staves will be provided. Safety googles and gloves are also recommended. No power tools will be used! Come prepared to break a sweat and build a beautiful, functional bow.
There is so much food and medicine all around us!! Come and join our plant walks and gain knowledge of the local plant life. We recommend bringing a notebook for taking small plant samples and notes. This is such a powerful way to reconnect with nature! You'll get to know the plant names and uses, when the best time to harvest is and so much more!

Private Lesson - Intro into Survival - Two Days-One Night

This class is for the student interested in exploring primitive survival but not ready to jump into the bush naked and afraid. The students will form a somewhat primitive camp using a tarp shelter and sleeping bags. Cooking gear will be provided and most food will be hiked in. Some food and water however will be foraged from the environment to simulate the skills needed to survive a real emergency situation. 2 day Walkabout
Join us for our 2 day adventures through the mountains, and deserts of Southern California. These classes teach skills on the move, only stopping when teaching moments arise. Moving from one point to another creates realistic scenarios and allows instructors to convey principles within situations as they arise. We believe this creates the most real and memorable experiences while bringing out each students full potential. All forms of primitive skills will be used over this course!
Wrightwood has some of the most beautiful landscape in California and its right in our back yard. By signing up for this hike, you will get to experience that beauty first hand. These hikes are designed to cater to any skill level. Lunch is included, so gear up and we'll see you in the woods!!
This is a very exciting hands on class, for all ages!! Everyone will learn how to identify, and process residual clay sources. Then how to hydrate the clay and create master pieces. So come join us on any of Thursdays listed!!
Friction Fire Survival Workshop - (Instructors Chad Keel, Kody Sherwood)
This class will teach you true self reliance; the ability to make fire anywhere, and anytime with no tools. You will be taught two methods, the Hand Drill and the Bow Drill. The Hand Drill method is the most primitive and thus requires tremendous focus and energy. You spin a wooden stick against a wood board with your bare hands and make a small ember which is then blown into a flame.
In wilderness survival or in the case of a natural disaster it will be crucial that you build a shelter to survival hash climates or conditions. Understanding how to create effective survival shelters is one of the most important skills you will learn. From keeping you protected from the elements to providing a place to rest, survival shelters serve a key role in survival situations. We will discuss many types of shelters and proper time to use them.
Selfbow and arrows
When in a survival situation, the ability to fashion a survival bow and arrows quickly and from the raw material surrounding you is a skill that is of extreme use, and could make the difference between simply surviving and thriving. To take advantage of this technology, there are a few things you need to know before building an effective survival bow and straight-flying arrows. We will cover: Finding Exceptional Wood for A Survival Bow, Creating the Bow Cord, Fletching and Hafting Arrows and much more!
Come and learn the art of primitive arrow making. We will learn how to collect arrow shafts from the local surroundings, haft arrowheads, and fletch feathers using pine pitch and sinew. We enjoy teaching a lot of primitive skills but this course is special because you create something that flies through the air. You also learn skills that transcend over into lots of other areas pertaining to survival and crafting. Bring a pocket knife.
Learning the lithic art of knapping will transport you back into time. It is both a meditation and math equation at the same time. Lithic technology paired with the knowledge and skills of friction fire set humanity on its path to the modern age. In this course you will learn how to produce stone tools and knapp arrowheads, dart points or axes.
WW Sunday Clean up
Every third Sunday of the month, we will be hosting a clean up day. We will pick a spot in Wrightwood that needs some love, take a before picture, then clean the area and take an after picture! This is a great way to keep our home clean, build community and reconnect with nature. Materials will be provided.
