This course is will introduce students to creating portraits in oil.
Portrait Painting in Oils - Tuesdays 6:30-9:30pm
Instructor: Karen Offutt
This course is an opportunity for students to work intensively from the life model. This course allows student to focus on value and color relationships in portraiture and how the function of light dictates the relationships we see.
Long Pose Figure Painting (Balkan)
In this class you will complete one medium to large scale figure painting which may include props and additional compositional elements either abstract or representational.
Prerequisites: life drawing and life painting experience required.
Figure Drawing - Thursdays 6:30 - 9:30 pm
Instructor: Danny Grant
This class is designed to teach students a step-by-step process for approaching every figure drawing. We'll learn to take our drawings from a series of simple, flat, two-dimensional shapes to clean, organic line drawings and, ultimately, to fully rendered three-dimensional figure drawings.
How to Draw Impossible Things - Mondays 6:30 - 9:30 pm
Instructor: Roger Paul Mason
Over an eight week period students will reexamine what they think they know about drawing from observation. Emphasis will be given to medium choices, mark-making, speed, philosophy, and fun. Multiple timed exercises will serve to loosen up the very idea of line making in order to build confidence and move toward personal expression.
Rose Frantzen Workshop
ALLA PRIMA PORTRAITS

The emphasis of this workshop will be to grow a deeper sensitivity to what you see and how to understand and paint what you see. Recognizing that style is inherent in the artist, we look at how to ask yourself what it is that you are seeing. We use the model as the beginning of that conversation. What is your relationship to this model? What is my experience of this human being sitting in front on me? How does one translate this into paint?
Joshua LaRock Workshop

Capturing a likeness is among the most elusive yet emotionally satisfying of artistic endeavors and a good drawing is undoubtedly the most critical component in achieving a good result. In this 4 day workshop Joshua will walk students through the steps necessary to create a luminous, indirect portrait painting from life, beginning with a drawing in graphite and white chalk.

Working from a variety of natural objects, we will explore the unique qualities of still life painting in gouache. Gouache is a magnificent, water-based media used for creating rich, opaque, paintings that have a wonderful, velvety surface. With this versatile media you can create flowing washes, big bold shapes, or even delicate, fine lines.
