Workshōpp Ceramics is a unique pottery studio with a focus on small batch production and experimentation. Mixed-level 2 hour casual classes are offered on a weekly schedule and allow you to learn the relaxing art of both hand building and throwing on the pottery wheel. There are 4 week and 8 week courses that run each term, but they sell out quickly.
Learning pottery at Workshopp is a meditative and creative process. Working with clay is fun, but there are no instant results. The practice of pottery depends on drying times, firing the work twice and working over a few weeks to achieve your finished pieces. All classes are 2 hours long and it's good to allow 5-7 days in between each lesson. Follow the steps below -
Step 1. HANDBUILDING
We recommend starting with this class to learn the basics of BUILDING by hand. We will bisque fire your pieces, so you can book a glaze class to get your pieces coloured. It’s perfectly suited for beginners!

Step 2. WHEEL THROWING
Have you always wanted to THROW pottery on the wheel? It's great fun and challenging too! We then keep your work leather hard for up to one month so you can book your trim class within that time.
Step 3. TRIM + TURN
If you do a WHEEL class, your next step is to TRIM those pots you made. We will then bisque fire it for you. If you do HANDBUILDING then skip this and book directly into the GLAZE class!
Step 4. GLAZE + DECORATE
Your work is now ready to be GLAZED. We will fire it again to a higher temperature after this class and it will be ready for you to collect from the studio in 1 - 2 weeks. You can choose from a wide variety of finishes and colours and everything is included in your class!
